  • In 1979, the Basilica and the village of Vézelay were classified as a World Heritage by Unesco.

    The hill is currently classified as a "historic site", that's why the 'Beaux-Arts' wanted to preserve the beauty of the landscapes and preserve the stones, witnesses of a prestigious past. Vézelay is one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", an association that brings together 154 picturesque French villages.

    Vezelay is also a place of spirituality and a starting point for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It's also one of the 17 French certified cities "Villes Sanctuaires en France", such as: Mont Saint-Michel, Lourdes, Lisieux , Chartres, Sainte Anne d'Auray, Rocamadour, ...
